Mentorship

The Mentorship requirement hours are in the flowchart, viewed in the Curriculum tab or on the Orthopaedic Division website.  The required 150 hours have been incorporated into the Orthopaedic Division's educational curriculum with some hours allocated to before Practical Exam #1and other hours after the exam. The clinical supervisor for each set of mentorship hours must have completed the exam for which the mentee is preparing.  IFOMT standards recommend a maximum of 4:1 ratio of mentees to mentor.  Some of the hours can be completed in indirect clinical hours, where there is no direct supervision by the mentor.  Full explanations of the required proportions and definitions of the types of study are available on the National website, www.orthodiv.org.

The downloadable document also provides a suggested breakdown timetable of completion of these hours during the curriculum, expectations of Mentors & Mentees, study tools, and fee guidelines.

There is a list of physiotherapists interested in mentoring on the national orthopaedic division website, however, this list is not all inclusive.  Any therapist with the appropriate credentials is able to serve as a mentor.
